The Marine Corps League
The Marine Corps League was founded in 1923 by World War I hero, then Major General Commandant John A. Lejeune
and Federally Chartered by an act of Congress in 1937. The League perpetuates the traditions and spirit of all Marines and Navy FMF
Corpsmen who proudly wear or have worn the eagle, globe and anchor of the United States Marine Corps.
The Jerry Murphy Detachment 381
Albuquerque Detachment 381 was first chartered by
the Marine Corps League in September 1979 and led by its first Commandant Richard J. O’Hara. The detachment carries out the programs
of the League at the local level. Some of the detachment’s activities include the Fallen Marine Memorial Service, Marine 4 Life, Toys
for Tots, Rose Program, scholarship grants and Young Marines. The detachment also supports the Veterans Affairs Voluntary Services
Program (VAVS) and hosts Zia Pound 181 of the Military Order of Devil Dogs, the “fun and honor society” of the League.
The detachment
is a member of the United Veterans Council and participates in many local and national memorial events. The council advocates and
supports state and national legislation on behalf of all veterans.
Detachment 381 is proud to have planned and hosted the 84th National
Convention of the Marine Corps League in 2007.
In 2008 the detachment was renamed in honor of Captain Raymond G. Jerry Murphy, a Medal
of Honor recipient and a member of our detachment who passed away in 2007.
